AAV Australia expanding

Facility acquires GMD f/x

SYDNEY — Australia’s biggest digital media and DVD duplication facility, AAV Australia, has acquired Sydney-based visual effects and animation group GMD (formerly Garner McLennan Design).

No price was disclosed.

GMD will operate independently within AAV’s Digital Pictures Network. Jeff Oliver, Sydney general manager of Digital Pictures, will oversee the GMD unit.

GMD assignments include producing 3-D animation and visual effects for Hallmark’s series “Farscape” and creative work for the feature films “Rabbit-Proof Fence,” “The Quiet American” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.”

AAV chief exec Ted Gregory said the acquisition of GMD is the first step in a major expansion for the AAV Group. AAV is taking over digital facility Isis Communications.
