Sesame Workshop, will develop a truncated 30-minute version of “Sesame Street” to better fit in international broadcast skeds. New format will be introduced at Mipcom in October.
Half-hour “Sesame Street” will be edited versions of episodes currently airing Stateside and still will include the usual Muppet segments and combination of animation and live action.
“Our goal is to encourage children to develop a lifelong love of learning,” said Liz Kalodner, org’s senior VP and G.M. of international TV distribution. “This is the ideal time to reach out to broadcasters and find out how we can work together to develop specific content to meet the needs of young children.”
The 20 locally produced versions of “Sesame Street,” which include Arabic, Hebrew and Russian editions, will be unaffected and continue in their hourlong format. Org also is hoping to expand the number of these co-productions.
