Paramount Pictures-based C/W Prods. is in final negotiations to acquire remake rights to “The Eye,” a Thai-Hong Kong co-production directed by Oxide Pang and Danny Pang, a duo known as the Pang Brothers.
Thriller concerns a blind woman who undergoes a corneal transplant that restores her sight; she discovers, however, that her new eye allows her to see unearthly things.
The Pang Brothers wrote the script with Jo Jo Yuet-chun Hui, who also served as associate producer.
Produced by Applause Pictures, the film was a major hit this summer in Asia, and a sequel is now in pre-production. Pic will make its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival Monday.
Gaye Hirsch brought it in to C/W, with Par exec VP Brian Witten serving as the supervising studio exec. The project is out to writers.
Peter Chan would produce the film with Cruise/Wagner, with Roy Lee and Doug Davison serving as executive producers.
