Kids’ show exec moving up the ‘Street’

Bernstein to o'see prod'n, develop show ideas

NEW YORK — Lewis Bernstein has been upped to exec producer of “Sesame Street.” Bernstein — a 25-year vet of Sesame Workshop — was previously vice president of Global Sesame Street Prods.

Bernstein’s new duties include overseeing production of the series and developing show ideas with a focus on incorporating educational content into the storylines and episodes. “His long history with the company and his dedication to excellence will ensure that the series remains in top form for years to come,” said Karen Gruenberg, Sesame Workshop’s exec VP of operations.

As vice president, Bernstein contributed to the international success of the series, overseeing teams in Europe, Kuwait and Israel developing their own local productions of the program. Before that, he was executive producer of “Sesame English,” which teaches conversational English abroad. Bernstein began his relationship with “Sesame Street” in 1972 as director of research for Jim Henson.

“It’s an honor to be associated with a program with such an extraordinary creative legacy and one that puts the need of children first and foremost,” Bernstein said.
