Frank Dietz

Head of acquisitions and co-productions, Super RTL

“Mr. Bean” and “SpongeBob SquarePants” are the latest toons to air on leading German tyke web Super RTL, and it’s this kind of animation that Frank Dietz is after.

The animated “Mr. Bean” benefited from the popularity in Germany of the live-action comedy series “Mr. Bean” and creator Rowan Atkinson.

“The show has not only attracted kids, but also a lot of older ‘Mr. Bean’ fans as well,” Dietz says.

Web has enjoyed a near 20% average market share among 3- to 13-year-olds and about 2.4% among total viewers. It recently picked up toon “Roboroach” from kidvidder RTV, which also sold the show to Fox Kids Europe earlier this year.

Dietz says the web is currently focusing on animated formats rather than live-action series, and that’s what he’ll be keeping an eye out for at Mipcom.
