Bonnier Group

Stockholm, Sweden

Revenue: $1.5 billion

Loss: $32 million

The privately owned Bonnier Group racked up its biggest net losses in recent history and turned in flat revenue growth, but its entertainment division, Bonnier Entertainment, which houses the film production and distribution company Svensk Filmindustri, is giving the group something to smile about.

“Our books, magazines, business entertainment and business information are doing well,” notes Bengt Braun, CEO of Bonnier. “The one single item that is still hurting us, because of the weak advertising market, is newspapers. Even the TV investments are beginning to pick up.”

Bonnier Entertainment’s Svensk Filmindustri, sister company of exhibition outfit SF Bio, posted a 20% jump in revenues and a record profit between the two companies of $9.5 million in 2001.
