Local station KCAL 9 achieved a ratings first on Friday when its coverage of the California Angels’ game against the Seattle Mariners outrated a Dodgers game on KCOP 13.
According to Nielsen, the Angels broadcast on KCAL averaged a 2.9 rating/6 share — 26% ahead of the 2.3/4 for the Dodgers’ game against the San Francisco Giants. It’s the first time in the six years that KCAL has carried Angels baseball that one of its games topped the rating for an over-the-air broadcast of a Dodgers game in head-to-head competition.
Season to date, the Angels, who moved into first place with a victory on Friday, are averaging a 2.3 rating on KCAL 9 — up 53% vs. last year.
Each ratings point equals 53,035 households in the Los Angeles area.
