Maverick, cabler go 'Pop'
HOLLYWOOD — Madonna and Guy Oseary’s Maverick Films is collaborating with music cabler VH1 on a new original telepic.
The companies are developing “How to be the Perfect Latino Popstar,” a Pygmalion story set in the world of Latin music. Laura Angelica Simon wrote the script.
Project is the latest to emerge from VH1, which has begun a flurry of development since Brian Graden and Christina Norman took the reins at the Viacom-owned network.
MTV entertainment prexy Graden added entertainment responsibilities to his plate at sibling VH1 earlier this year, after Norman was named VH1 G.M./exec VP (Daily Variety, May 15).
Maverick partners Madonna and Oseary will exec produce “Latino Popstar,” along with company prexy Mark Morgan and Bruno Del Granado, who is prexy of Maverick Records’ Latin division, Maverick Musica.
Simon is repped by Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann.
Maverick is producing Frankie Muniz starrer “Agent Cody Banks” for MGM and developing a remake of the Korean pic “My Sassy Girl” for DreamWorks.
