Koch Entertainment has signed deals to distribute Sundazed Music, an indie label specializing in the reissue and restoration of classic recordings, and Babygrande Records, a New York-based indie hip-hop label founded by former Priority Records A&R exec Chuck Wilson.
The roster at Babygrande Records includes Canibus, Supernatural, Jedi Mind Tricks, the Mountain Brothers and Chops. Wilson, also a screenwriter, plans to create a conceptual connectivity between music and movies, with soundtracks to be released on Babygrande.
Sundazed’s catalog of CD and LP titles include albums from the Byrds, Gram Parsons, Buck Owens, Nancy Sinatra and an impressive number of obscure 1960s rock artists such as the Remains and Bryan Maclean. Label has two side-labels, Euphoria Jazz and BeatRocket Records, which focus on cult artists and label compilations.
Sundazed’s LP catalog includes audiophile releases from Bob Dylan, Otis Redding, MC5, Booker T. & the MGs, Lovin’ Spoonful, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Ben Folds and others.
“Our distribution routes have always been carefully chosen,” Sundazed owner Bob Irwin said. “After years of friendly conversation about a possible union, Koch president Michael Rosenberg and I both felt that now was the perfect time to forge this relationship. The growth afforded by this — both in sales and creativity — along with the retail penetration that Koch offers, will help raise Sundazed’s visibility to the next level.”
