The government has awarded Abba’s Benny Andersson an honorary doctorate for “creating quality music that reaches people all over the world.”

The pop group won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with its song “Waterloo.” It disbanded in 1982. Andersson and former group member Bjorn Ulvaeus co-wrote the musicals “Chess” and “Mamma Mia!”
