NEW YORK — Gotham-based TVT Records cut a licensing deal Monday with U.K. major Universal-Island Records, clearing the way for European releases of TVT acts and back catalog.
Terms weren’t disclosed for the multiyear pact with the unit of U.S. major Universal Music Group, but TVT chief Steve Gottlieb said the arrangement lets the label “consolidate our artist roster and catalog” under one distributor for the region. It also allows the label to release far more of its discs overseas. Previously, TVT had contracted for European distribution on an artist-by-artist basis, a label rep said.
Among the first new artists to make their European debuts under Monday’s deal are recent TVT signings Wayne Blue Epic, Closure and Pay the Girl. Also bowing with Universal across the Pond are catalog releases from Snoop Dogg and tha Eastsidaz and Cash Murda Click, featuring Ja Rule.
TVT also boasts hard-rock acts Sevendust and Default plus catalog material from Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson.
