Universal TV exec Gibbar to run office
HOLLYWOOD — Miami-based TM Systems, which won a technical achievement Emmy earlier this year for its subtitling and dubbing technology, is opening a Los Angeles center to handle work for area studios and TV nets and has hired Universal TV exec David L. Gibbar to run the office as TM’s VP of sales.
Company is creating the hub to tie together a network of its translation systems sprinkled around the hemisphere so it may better manage projects by using up available capacity while giving area clients easier access, said CEO Ken Lorber. Work managed at the hub can be shifted easily to translators in many places. The Los Angeles office will allow Hollywood clients to remotely check which voices have been cast for dubbed versions of their movies and TV programs and will simplify the distribution of audio, scripts and other material over the Internet for translation.
“Producers and directors want to be involved in the process, but they want it to be simple,” said Gibbar, a 15-year veteran of the dubbing and subtitling industry who was most recently VP of distribution services for more than two years at U TV.
TM Systems is also creating a hub in Miami for its Spanish-language clients.
