‘Star Wars’ in full force

Half-hour play to be produced by Festival Theater USA

A hit from the 1999 Edinburgh Festival, “Star Wars Trilogy in 30 Minutes” will receive its U.S. premiere at the Coronet Theater in West Hollywood starting Oct. 25.

Adapted and directed by Patrick T. Gorman, the half-hour play reduces the three original “Star Wars” films into a coherent comedy with all the famous lines intact. The actors play multiple roles — Darth Vader as the hairy Wookie Chewbacca, Yoda is C3PO is R2D2, and the ensemble plays everything from the Ewoks and the Cantina Band to a trash compactor.

Before the Edinburgh Festival, “30 Minutes” was developed and presented in 1996 for John Edward Blankenchip’s Festival Theater USC-USA. Gorman’s other written works include an adaptation of “Reservoir Dogs,” also performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Pic is produced by Festival Theater USA with the exclusive permission of Lucasfilm. The play is produced by Steve Josephson for Festival Theater USA. Profits from the production will benefit USC’s Edinburgh Fund. The play runs through Nov. 23.
