Liev Schreiber will join Sigourney Weaver in Neil LaBute’s new play “The Mercy Seat.”
MCC Theater presents the world premiere at the new Acorn Theater on West 42nd Street. Previews begin Nov. 26, with opening night set for Dec. 18. Closing is slated for Jan. 12.
The playwright will helm his post-Sept. 11 drama about a man’s affair with an older woman. The production replaces the previously announced LaBute play “The Distance from Here.” The scribe-director told Daily Variety he requested the switch so the more timely “Mercy Seat” could be staged. “Distance” now skedded is for the 2003-04 season at MCC.
Schreiber has begun to acquire a growing resume of critically acclaimed legit performances. A favorite of Gotham’s not-for-profit theater, he recently performed in “Betrayal” at the Roundabout and “Hamlet” and “Othello” at the Public.
