McDormand goes ‘Far Away’ for legiter

Daldry prod'n based on London original of Churchill's fable

Frances McDormand has been cast in “Far Away,” which gets its American preem at the New York Theater Workshop.

Set to open Nov. 11, NYTW’s production is based on the original London staging of Caryl Churchill’s fable about a young girl and her aunt. It will be produced in association with the Royal Court Theater, where the play had its world preem in December 2000. It later transferred to the West End.

Stephen Daldry directs. Alexa Eisenstein, Marin Ireland, Chris Messina and Gina Rose round out the cast.

City Center Encores celebrates its 10th anniversary with a concert of numbers from musicals the series has presented over the past nine years. The benefit runs Nov. 24 and 25 for three perfs.

The concert-musical series also announces its new season: “House of Flowers” by Harold Arlen and Truman Capote (Feb. 13-16); “The New Moon” by Sigmund Romberg, Oscar Hammerstein II, Frank Mandel and Laurence Schwab (March 27-30); and “No Strings” by Richard Rodgers (May 8-12).

Kevin Kline presents his one-person “Shakespeare Live!” for one perf only, on Sept. 22 at Juilliard. The evening will benefit the Acting Co. on its 30th anniversary.
