Broadway numbers continued to tick upward during Week 8 (July 15-21), gaining 7.4% from the previous week. Only eight shows saw a slide in box office biz.
The week’s biggest increase was at “Into the Woods,” which took in $486,526 this week to put the musical back into the roster of top-10 earners.
First four previews of tuner “Hairspray” reaped a take of $300,128 and boasted 98% capacity.
The 19 musicals grossed $10,866,010 for 81.8% of the Broadway total. Attendance of 168,453 was 76.1% of capacity.
The 11 plays took in $2,416,450 for 18.2% of the Broadway total. Attendance of 53,012 was 31.5% of capacity.
Average ticket prices were $64.62 for musicals, $45.58 for plays and $60.07 for all shows.
