Films to be low-budget, some straight to video

VANCOUVER — High-def vid producer Yaletown Entertainment has inked a five-year deal for 50 films with producer-director Lloyd Simandl, owner of a film studio in Prague.

Yaletown, the Vancouver-based producer of TV series “Weird Houses” and “Weird Wheels,” is creating a division for the films; it is scheduled to begin production on the first six this month.

Pics will be low-budget action productions, said Yaletown CEO John Cumming, some going to theatrical release and some straight to video.

Yaletown has directed its new chairman, Los Angeles producer David Dadon, to deliver at least $3 million in new fully funded film production within the next year.

Earlier this year, Yaletown acquired Pinewood Recording Studios, a major provider of digital audio services to the film and TV industry here.
