Wellspring has acquired “Betty Fisher et Autres Histoires,” directed by Claude Miller, which screened at Lincoln Center in the series Rendezvous with French Cinema.
Wellspring had also acquired “Les Destinees,” directed by Olivier Assayas, before the series.
“Betty” is a psychological thriller based on Ruth Rendell’s novel “The Tree of Hands.” It stars Sandrine Kimberlain, Nicole Garcia and Mathilde Seigner.
“This is Claude Miller’s best film to date,” said Krysanne Katsoolis, Wellspring’s senior veep of acquisitions, who struck the deal with President Films’ prexy Claudia Rae. “It is suspenseful and entertaining, a striking spectacle of Miller’s astute understanding of the relationship between a parent and child, and their spiraling destinies.”
Pact is for all U.S. rights, including theatrical, television and home vid.
Wellspring will launch “Betty Fisher” theatrically in the fall, with VHS and DVD releases to follow next year.
Other recent releases by Wellspring include “Under the Sand,” helmed by Francois Ozon; “What Time is it There,” directed by Tsai Ming-Liang; “The Circle,” from director Jafar Panahi and “Yi Yi,” directed by Edward Yang.
