Cannes — UGC Intl. topper Patrick Binet confirmed to Variety Friday that he’ll ankle the company he helped create to take a job at French broadcaster TF1’s film arm.
TF1 would not comment on the move.
Binet said he did not yet know what exact position he would assume at TF1 Intl., but specified he is not making the move to run the newly announced TF1-Miramax distribution venture, as reported in the foreign press.
The Parisian rumor mill has ex-Canal Plus program chief Alexandre Drudigny filling Binet’s shoes.
Binet also stressed the move was not inspired by a clash with UGC Images prexy Brigitte Maccioni. “The present structure of the company just doesn’t suit me,” Binet said.
UGC sales division was recently incorporated into the distribution and production unit which Maccioni heads.
Binet is an important equity shareholder in the company.
