Helmer nabs Cecil Holmes award for contributions to directing

Vet Aussie helmer-writer-producer Mike Thornhill won the Cecil Holmes award for contributions to directing at the Australian Screen Directors Assn. annual conference in Sydney on Saturday.

Thornhill, whose directing credits include “Between the Wars,” “The F.J. Holden,” “The Journalist” and “Everlasting Secret Family,” has been an outspoken advocate for the director’s role in the film industry Down Under.

Previous recipients include Tim Burstall, Gil Brealey and Richard Mason.
