The story of one of Peru’s most wanted criminals hit the big screens June 27, the first local production released this year.
“La otra cara” (The Other Face) is about Oswaldo Gonzales, infamous for a string of robberies and prison breaks in the 1980s. Gonzales, an adviser to the production, proposed a movie about his life to Inca Cine in 1998.
The script was awarded top prize last year by Peru’s National Film Council. Inca Cine tapped frosh helmer Ricardo Velasquez to direct on a shoestring budget of $270,000.
