Thesp would play man who falls for his young g.f.'s mom

Jack Nicholson is negotiating to topline an untitled comedy for Sony Pictures Entertainment that was written and will be directed by Nancy Meyers.

Nicholson will play an aging man who seems to have a great life, with a thriving career and a beautiful girlfriend young enough to be his daughter. That bliss takes an unexpected turn when he’s introduced to his girlfriend’s mother. They have a lot in common and he finds himself falling in love with her.

Nicholson just toplined the Revolution Studios comedy “Anger Management” with Adam Sandler; Sony will distribute that pic domestically.

The project is the first generated by Meyers since she signed an overall Sony deal. She had then just scored a big hit with the Mel Gibson starrer “What Women Want” at Paramount.

She set up this project as a pitch when she made the term deal last year, telling Daily Variety then it was “a multicharacter, multigenerational piece about falling in love, about being with people others think are too old or too young for you, and it’s about what feels right for you.”

The studio refused to comment, but sources said Nicholson sparked to the film and was negotiating to star in it.
