Marisa Tomei, nominated for a supporting actress Oscar for her performance in Miramax’s “In the Bedroom,” Tuesday was named ShoWest’s supporting actress of the year for 2002.
Tomei will be honored at a March 7 awards gala set to close the annual trade show. ShoWest 2002 opens Monday at Las Vegas’ Paris and Bally’s hotels.
“Marisa Tomei is a multifaceted actress who has delivered an astonishing performance in ‘In the Bedroom’ as well as in her many other roles,” said Robert Sunshine, chairman of show organizer Sunshine Group Worldwide. “We are honored to present her with this award.”
Tomei first achieved international recognition — and a supporting actress Oscar — for 1992’s “My Cousin Vinny.” She next will star in Paramount Classics’ romantic comedy “Just a Kiss” and also will be seen in Universal’s upcoming laffer “The Guru.” She appeared in last year’s “What Women Want” and 1992’s “Chaplin.” Her stage perfs include roles in “Waiting for Lefty,” “We Won’t Pay!” and “Rocket to the Moon.”
