29-year industryite will get kudos at event's closing gala

Disney distrib topper Chuck Viane has been named to received the Show “E” Award at ShowEast 2002 for his many career industry accomplishments.

Viane, a 16-year vet at Mouse House’s Buena Vista Pictures Distribution and 29-year industryite, will be feted at an awards gala set to close the annual exhib trade show Oct. 12. ShowEast kicks off Oct. 9 at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Florida.

The Show “E” Award is given annually to an industry executive, “singling out his achievements and accomplishments and outstanding dedication and commitment to the betterment of the motion picture experience,” organizers noted. Past recipients have included Sony’s Jeff Blake, Paramount’s Wayne Lewellen, 20th Century Fox’s Bruce Snyder and Regal Entertainment’s Mike Campbell.

During his long Mouse tenure, Viane has broken numerous industry records and reps the only distrib to hit the $1 billion-gross plateau in six years. In 1999, he was named prexy at Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, with 12 releases since grossing in excess of $100 million.

Prior to joining Buena Vista in 1986, Viane was veep and head film buyer for General Cinemas.
