Renacimeinto set to nab classics

Tati titles among the first acquisitions for the company

Veteran distribber Walter Achugar has launched a new shingle Renacimiento Films.

The bow marks Achugar’s return to the Spanish biz, where he has worked since the 1970s, after three years in his native Uruguay.

Renacimiento will buy classic titles for the DVD and TV market, as well as handling theatrical distribution on some titles, Achugar told Daily Variety at the San Sebastian Intl. Film Festival on Monday.

The company’s first deal has been the all-rights acquisition of a clutch of Jacques Tati titles made up of “Playtime,” “Mon Oncle,” “Mr Hulot’s Holiday” and “Holiday,” as well as three shorts never seen in Spain.
