JOHANNESBURG — Paybox M-Net has invited local filmmakers to submit ideas for eight productions for its primetime “Movie of the Month.”
Bongi Selane of Magicworks, M-Net’s production company, says the aim is to promote the development of the industry. Winners will be chosen by the end of November.
“This is a commercial venture which aims to produce quality films which can compete with the best international fare at home and be sold to international broadcasters,” says Selane. “We are really excited to see what ideas our people will come up with.”
M-Net will provide funding of $1,500 a minute for projects which meet the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa’s local content regulations in terms of crew and filming requirements, says Selane.
The Independent Producers’ Organization, which believes the local film industry will never develop without the support of broadcasters, has applauded M-Net’s initiative.
