Par flips for French ‘Lips’

Levinson, Weinstein look to remake o'seas romancer

Paramount Pictures is taking a close look at “Read My Lips.”

Studio has bought the English-language remake rights to the French romance-film noir for Barry Levinson and Paula Weinstein to produce via their Baltimore/Spring Creek shingle.

Exec producers on the project will be Jean-Louis Livi and Philippe Carcassonne, rights holders and producers of the original Pathe release. CAA repped Livi, Carcassonne and Baltimore/Spring Creek.

The French film, directed by Jacques Audiard and scripted by Audiard and Tonino Benacquista, has grossed more than $1.2 million in the U.S. since being released by Magnolia Films in July.

The off-center project revolves around the relationship between a 35-year-old half-deaf secretary (Emmanuelle Devos) and a 25-year-old thief on parole (Vincent Cassel). Devos won the French Cesar award for best actress.
