'Lan Yu' makes preem as event's closing pic

Margaret Cho concert pic “Notorious C.H.O.” will open the 14th annual New York Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. Pic, newly acquired by Wellspring Media, follows Cho on her recent comedy tour and opens theatrically July 4.

Fest unspools June 6-11 across Gotham at the New School, NYU and Anthology Film Archives. Closing-night pic, Chinese love story “Lan Yu,” makes its New York premiere after screening at the Toronto, Cannes and Sundance fests. Drama tracks the relationship of two men in Beijing over nine years.

Eleven-day event also includes selections co-presented with the Human Rights Watch Film Fest and the New York Intl. Latino Film Fest. Asian Cinema, drag and conversion are among this year’s focus themes.

A number of audience and jury awards will be presented at festival’s end, along with the Vito Russo Award, which recognizes a Gotham-based project, and the Peter S. Reed Achievement award, which salutes a filmmaker with an established body of work.
