New Line’s ‘History’ to turn violent

Graphic novel preceded 'Perdition'

New Line Cinema has always enjoyed a proud history of onscreen violence, but now the studio actually has acquired “A History of Violence.”

Mini-major has picked up “A History of Violence,” the first book in the Paradox Graphic Mystery line of books published by Paradox Press/DC Comics.

The second book in the series was “Road to Perdition,” toplined by Tom Hanks and helmed by Sam Mendes, but the two have nothing to do with one another in terms of story.

Written by John Wagner (creator of comicbook series “Judge Dredd”) and illustrated by Vince Locke, story is described as a modern-day “Unforgiven”: Plot of the graphic novel follows an ordinary family’s life after the father receives unwanted national attention for a seemingly vigilante self-defense killing at his diner, and his previously unknown past is dredged up.

Management and production concern Benderspink’s principals JC Spink and Chris Bender will produce the pic, while attorney Roger Kass also is expected to produce in some capacity.

New Line senior VP of production Kent Alterman will be overseeing its development along with creative exec Cale Boyter.
