CAIRO — Films from the unlikely combo of Disney and Iran will grab the spotlight at the Cairo Intl. Children’s Film Festival which kicked off Thursday.
More than 206 films from 33 countries are participating at the Cairo Opera House with last year’s fest winner, Iran, spooling a whopping 34 films in eight days.
All eight U.S. films come from Disney, with a special tribute to Andrew Aherne, VP of Disney Intl. Character Voices.
Spanish producer/director Rodolfo Sigfredo is jury president and British animator Hillary Audus (“Christmas Carol”) heads the TV and animation jury.
Cash prizes of LE 50, 000 ($11,000) are being awarded to best Arabic feature, TV and animation films to encourage regional production.
