Modern inks Playboy pacts

Deal involves 30 hours of programming a year

Modern Entertainment has closed a series of deals here for all forms of home entertainment (including DVD) from Playboy Home Entertainment.

Modern has firmed pacts for Medusa for the U.K.; Lusomondo for Portugal; SRE for Korea; Cine Video for Mexico; Killic Film for Turkey; and Panorama for Hong Kong.

All have signed multiyear agreements to distribute at least 12 Playboy specials and 12 Eros movies per year.

The Encino, Calif.-based Modern, the worldwide distribution unit of MTG, is dealing with rights to up to 30 hours of programming a year for the next three years.

Modern has international distribution rights, outside the U.S. and Canada. The company plans to initially focus on new productions, but will also look into rereleasing product from Playboy’s library.

It also will explore establishment of co-production deals with local distributors to produce new videos under the Playboy banner.
