Spike Lee is revisiting his school days. Helmer will return to his alma mater, New York U.’s Tisch School of the Arts, as artistic director for the graduate division of the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television.
Newly created position commences with this spring semester. In previous years, Lee has taught the class “Directing Strategies” at the school and advised third-year grad students. In his new role, he’ll be supervising selected third-year students with thesis projects and helping them make the transition from school into the industry.
Lee’s latest pic, “Jim Brown: All American,” opens in Gotham shortly. Multitasking helmer also produces commercials via Spike/DDB shingle with partner the DDB Needham ad agency.
