Landscape Pictures has acquired the comedy script “Suck” from writers Ari Margolis and James Morley.
Landscape chairman Bob Cooper, along with Landscape Pictures prexy Michael Birnbaum, will produce the film. Company will develop and package the project internally and then, via its mandate, secure a commitment from a third-party studio for production and distribution. Landscape Pictures is owned by Artisan Entertainment. Landscape veep Karen Lunder will shepherd the project for the company.
Story follows a young vampire in Seattle who must deal with his new affliction while fighting off ghouls, rescuing a damsel in distress and paying the rent.
Horror, comedy mix
Birnbaum said “Suck” “successfully reinvents the vampire genre by combining elements of horror and comedy in a truly unique manner: It’s hip, hilariously funny and filled with attitude. I’m thrilled to add it to Landscape’s growing slate of smart, commercial material.”
Morley’s writing credits include “Intrepid” and “Final Voyage.”
In 2000, the scribe duo wrote and directed the independent black and white pic “Black Days.” Film was a an official selection at the 2001 Slamdance Film Festival.
Artisan exec veep of business and legal affairs Erin Austin repped Landscape in the negotiations; Margolis and Morley were repped by ICM. They recently signed on for representation with managers Danny Sherman and Jewerl Ross of Marathon Entertainment.
