HONG KONG — Local actioner “Fulltime Killer” will get mainstream treatment in Europe this September when the Milkyway Image/Teamwork production bows in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
A deal was struck between Hong Kong’s Teamwork Motion Pictures and Austria’s United Dragons Intl. at last week’s Filmart confab in Hong Kong.
The thriller, starring Teamwork founder Andy Lau and directed by Johnnie To and collaborator Wai Ka-fai, will be dubbed into German and released on 150 prints aimed at commercial theaters rather than arthouse venues.
The movie centers on a master assassin (Takashi Sorimachi) trying to foil another assassin (Andy Lau) who is trying to dethrone him.
The film played at the Intl. Forum of New Cinema at the Berlinale with an extra screening added, due to overwhelming response. It raked in an impressive $3.3 million at local box offices last year.
Distribution rights have been sold for major territories including France, the U.K. and the U.S.
United Dragons Intl. previously bought distribution rights for German-speaking and French-speaking Europe for To’s “Running Out of Time 2” from Hong Kong company China Star Entertainment.
In Hong Kong, To has just released a supernatural romantic comedy “My Left Eye Sees Ghosts,” starring Sammi Cheng.
