Intermedia does ‘Shuffle’

Sullivan to helm hip-hop 'Catcher in the Rye'

Will Smith and Ryan Phillippe are teaming to produce “White Boy Shuffle” for Intermedia Films.

Kevin Sullivan (“How Stella Got Her Groove Back”) is attached to direct the pic, a hip-hop “Catcher in the Rye” about a young black kid whose Santa Monica beach life comes to a grinding halt when his mom uproots the family to move to South-Central Los Angeles.

Pic is adapted by Elizabeth Hunter (“The Fighting Temptations’) from the novel by Paul Beatty.

The producers are aiming for a fall start. Producing the pic are Phillippe and David Siegel of Lucid Film and Overbrook Entertainment’s Smith and James Lassiter.

“We are proud to be working with Kevin,” said Phillippe. “A project like this does not come along very often.”

Sullivan is repped by Endeavor, Hunter by ICM and Beatty by Michael Siegel & Associates.
