Michael Helfant, who joined Dimension as senior exec VP in 1999, is ankling the company.
Genre label Dimension has caught fire in recent years as a dominant producer of low-cost, high-grossing franchises. Helfant worked with Miramax co-head Bob Weinstein in building a large business affairs staff dedicated to Dimension; was instrumental in bringing such properties as “The Green Hornet” to the company; and played a key role in producing the “Spy Kids” series.
Helfant also oversaw Dimension’s push into licensing, merchandising and new media.
“It was an incredible run,” said Helfant, whose three-year deal ended several months ago said. “I was lucky to be around for ‘Scream 3,’ ‘Scary Movie’ and ‘Spy Kids.’ ”
He added, “The timing seemed right” to pursue other interests. Helfant and Dimension both called the parting amicable.
Helfant was an exec at Interscope Communications from 1990-99.
He said he will devote the coming weeks to his post as vice chair of the Aug. 25 “L’Chaim — To Life!” Chabad telethon airing live across the country.
