HONG KONG — Helmer Stanley Kwan will receive the first Prism award for his contribution to gay and lesbian culture at the 12th Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival.
Kudos will be handed out Thursday at the 18-day fest’s opening celebrations. Kwan’s “Lan Yu” has garnered 11 noms at the upcoming Hong Kong Film Awards.
Fest’s first Golden Lipstick prize for best film, chosen by a panel of four critics, will be awarded at the closing-night bash.
The festival features 33 entries from around the world, including documentaries, shorts, TV series and feature films. “We see this as a celebration or a tribute, not a competition,” said Ray Yeung, who shares the title of director and curator of the festival with Wouter Barendrecht.
