Morgan Freeman’s Revelations Entertainment and the Ruddy Morgan Organization will produce “Million $$$ Baby,” a selection from FX Toole’s collection of boxing stories, “Rope Burns: Stories From the Corner.”
RMO optioned the feature rights and Emmy Award winner Paul Haggis (“Family Law”) is writing the script.
“Million $$$ Baby” is a bittersweet tale of a young woman looking to fight her way out of poverty in the ring and of the veteran trainer who takes her on against his better judgment.
FX Toole is the pseudonym of Jerry Boyd, who made his book-publishing debut at 70 with “Rope Burns” after 20 years as a boxing trainer.
The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times named “Rope Burns” as a notable book of the year.
RMO recently announced it had optioned Iris Chang’s controversial bestseller “The Rape of Nanking,” being developed as a feature to be filmed entirely in China. RMO recently began production on the reality series “My First Time” for Showtime and has completed production in Shanghai on the 22-episode television series “Flatland,” starring Dennis Hopper.
