‘Freak’ wins Polish Golden Lions

'Edi,' 'My Town' pick up special prizes

WARSAW — Marek Koterski pic “The Day of the Freak” was awarded the Golden Lions at the 27th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, which wrapped Sept. 21.

The film follows a day in the life of a frustrated intellectual divorcee who teaches Polish to school kids.

A total of 21 pics produced by independents were vying for the main prize and a further 14 were in a separate competish for low-budget movies.

Special Prizes were given to Piotr Trzaskalski’s “Edi” and Marek Lechki’s “My Town,” both of which made their fest debuts.
