Story concerns guy who sets up disasters for his benefit

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Initial Entertainment Group-based Appian Way Prods. has optioned a spec from Adam “Tex” Davis, “The Gardener of Eden.”

Story concerns a ne’er-do-well college dropout who returns to his hometown and receives unexpected accolades when he inadvertently saves a local’s life. This inspires him to set up more would-be disasters so he can again benefit from saving the day.

Script had been previously optioned by Good Machine. No decision has been made as to whether DiCaprio will act in the film in addition to producing it.

Appian is developing Howard Hughes biopic “The Aviator” with producer Michael Mann and director Martin Scorsese.

Repped by Major Artists and Benderspink, Davis did rewrites on “Zits” and “Good and Dead” at Universal and “10 Wishes” for 20th Century Fox. He also set up “Just Friends” at New Line Cinema.
