Maher to host BFCA event

Muhammad Ali will be feted with the Broadcast Film Critics Assn’s inaugural Freedom Award on Friday, during the org’s 7th annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

Bill Maher will emcee the kudocast, which is being held at the BevHills Hotel — E! Entertainment Television will air the ceremony in its entirety on Jan. 14.

Ali, who is the to receive this honor, is being singled out for “illuminating our shared values of freedom, tolerance and democracy.”

“We are thrilled to be able to honor Muhammad Ali with the Freedom Award,” said BFCA prexy Joey Berlin. “He is a man who stood up for his convictions at great personal cost in a troubled time and became an inspiration to millions around the world. Beyond his greatness in the ring, he has come to personify the values which make America great and which this award celebrates. He continues to be a beacon of freedom in another troubled time.”
