LONDON — Stewart Till’s Signpost Films has signed a first-look deal with Sophie Balhetchet and Lynda La Plante’s Cougar Films.
First project under the deal is “Click,” a romantic comedy written and directed by Ol Parker, starring his wife, Thandie Newton. Pic is scheduled to shoot in London this fall.
Cougar was launched in October by Balhetchet, an experienced Brit TV producer, and La Plante, best known as the writer of “Prime Suspect” and numerous other TV dramas.
Production deal is Signpost’s first in the U.K. Till commented, “I was so impressed by ‘Click’ and several other titles in development by Cougar Films, I wanted to formalize the relationship.”
Balhetchet said, “This deal enables us to develop genre-based films with British talent aimed firmly at the international market. It hard-wires us into a worldwide production and distribution operation of exceptional caliber and expertise.”
“Stewart Till is renowned for championing talent,” added La Plante. “He shares our belief in the importance of first-class writing.” La Plante is writing what she describes as “an original high-concept thriller with a huge role for a leading actress,” which will be developed with Signpost.
