Soundtrack pioneers honored

HOLLYWOOD — For the first time, the Music & Entertainment Industry Group for City of Hope has selected six recipients for the Spirit of Life Award.

The six are all pioneers and innovators in the genre of movie soundtracks: Burt Berman, president of the music division, Paramount Pictures; Robert Kraft, prez of Fox Music; Gary LeMel, prexy of worldwide music, Warner Bros. Pictures; Chris Montan, prez of Walt Disney Music; Kathy Nelson, prexy of film music for Universal Music Group and Universal Pictures; and Lia Vollack, exec VP of music for Sony Pictures.

City of Hope will present the awards at a black-tie gala dinner on Oct. 17 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. All proceeds will benefit City of Hope’s cancer research and treatment programs.

The Spirit of Life Award is typically presented to one or two individuals each year who have made a notable contribution to both their community and profession. Past honorees include Edgar Bronfman Jr., Frances W. Preston, Phil Quartararo, Howard Lander, Timothy White, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Antonio “L.A.” Reid.
