Cairo shines gold on ‘Fading Light’

Greece's Dooros takes home top prize in kid pic fest

CAIRO — Host country Egypt picked up just one award at its 12th Cairo Intl. Children Film Fest which wrapped on March 21.

Greece won Gold for “Fading Light” by Vassilis Dooros, Iceland bagged the Silver for “Ikingut” by Gisli Snaer Erlingsson and Bronze went to China for “Touched by Love” by Jiang Ping – Liu Xin.

The jury, headed by Spanish producer Rodolfo Sigfredo and British animator Hillary Audus, honored “Mother by Iran’s Leila Mirhadi. Egypt finally got the Gold in animation for ” El leila el kebeira.”

Government cash prizes for best Arabic feature and short films were handed to Kamal Cherif’s “Premier Noel” from France and Syrian Walid Hrib for “Moment of Joy.” Spain got gold for the TV film “Capelito” by Rodolfo Pastor.

The Special Int. Jury TV film prize was given to “The Crown and the Specter” featuring a classic Arabian folk tale animated by Russian puppeteers.
