Anima Mundi fest tooning up in Rio

Latin America’s largest animation fest, the 10th Anima Mundi, will kick off today in Brazil.

Featuring 431 films and videos in competition, workshops, panels, and special screenings, the 10-day Rio De Janeiro fest also will honor U.S. Oscar winner Chuck Jones.

The local British Council is sponsoring a daylong screening of British cartoons. “Chicken Run” helmer Peter Lord and his fellow Aardman director Jason Spencer-Galsworthy will be on hand to present the studio’s work.

The fest will have a day dedicated to Disney, include a screening of “Beauty and the Beast” with 20 minutes of additional footage.

Fest attendance last year was 75,000.
