‘Amelie’ triumphs in South Africa

French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s “Amelie” has beaten “Indochine” to become the biggest French-lingo film released in South Africa.

The movie has grossed R1.2-million ($117,647) at the box office in six weeks of release on just five prints countrywide.

“Amelie” is also the territory’s third most successful foreign-lingo film, behind “Life Is Beautiful” and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”
