Spanish thesps to debate intellectual rights
MADRID — The Spanish Actors and Performers Rights Collection group (AISGE) – Spain’s equivalent of the Screen Actor’s Guild – will host an international forum on Sept. 27 during the 50th San Sebastian Intl. Film Festival.
A panel discussion entitled “Actors and their Copyrights,” the forum will attempt to map out the rights which are or could be available to actors and performers in and outside Spain.
The session will also analyze progress in the campaign by AISGE and other thesp rights entities outside Spain for an international treaty recognizing actors’ intellectual property rights. AISGE will attempt to advance the issue at this year’s assembly of the Worldwide Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Sept. 23.
The San Sebastian forum is one of a roster of activities being put into place by AISGE prexy Assumpta Serna, since May.
AISGE already sponsors and prizes the best pic in the San Sebastian fest’s Made in Spanish panorama of recent Spanish-lingo pics. At this edition, it will offer a new lifetime achievement award to an actor from a Spanish-language country. Kudos will also take place Sept. 27.
