Woo, Lion on ‘Blind’ date

MGM spots Katz script; 'Windtalkers' helmer attached

MGM has snapped up the spec script “Blind Spot” from TV producer Evan Katz for mid-six figures, with action helmer John Woo and partner Terence Chang on board to produce.

The thriller, set in Washington, D.C., revolves around a man wrongfully accused of a crime.

Woo and Chang will produce through their MGM-based shingle Lion Rock. MGM veep of production Eric Paquette is overseeing the project, which may head into production soon.

Woo is eyeing “Spot” as a potential directing gig but is already busy with several other pics at other studios.

Fresh off helming the WWII drama “Windtalkers,” which MGM distribbed this summer, Woo is attached to direct “The Divide” (formerly titled “Men of Destiny”) at Disney. Nicolas Cage and Chow Yun-Fat are set to star in epic look at the 19th century construction of America’s railroads; Bill Mechanic’s Pandemonium set up the pic at the Mouse House earlier this year.

‘Divide’ delays

However, with “The Divide” development slowed down due to a soaring budget, Woo is keeping his options open.

Katz serves as a consulting producer on the Fox drama “24.” He also created the WB show “Three” and “Special Unit 2” for UPN.

He scripted “Spot” while working in between shows and seasons. He also has the feature comedy “The Auteurs” set up at Lions Gate.

“This has been a labor of love for the past three years,” Katz said of “Spot.”

Katz, Woo, Chang and Lion Rock are repped by Endeavor.
