Universal casts Hutchinson

New VP oversaw casting of 'X-Men,' 'Dr. Dolittle'

Universal Pictures has hired Julie Hutchinson, a former casting director at Fox and CBS TV, as VP of feature casting.

Hutchinson will report to feature casting senior VP Joanna Colbert until the end of the year, when Colbert plans to ankle to become an indie casting director consulting for the studio on a non-exclusive basis.

“We have admired Julie’s work for a long time and are very happy to have her at Universal,” U production co-prexys Mary Parent and Scott Stuber said.

“And while we will miss having Joanna as a member of our inhouse team, we will still have access to her excellent taste and instincts as she continues to consult on our films.”

Hutchinson comes to Universal after seven years at Fox, first as feature casting director, then as VP. While at Fox, she supervised the casting of such pics as “X-Men” and “X-Men 2,” “Big Momma’s House,” “Dr. Dolittle” and “Independence Day.”

She was director of casting at CBS-TV from 1992 until 1995.
