Sony label Screen Gems has acquired the thriller spec “Streaming Evil” and plans to put the project into production this summer.
Penned by tyro scribes Robert Fyvolent and Mark R. Brinker, pic is the story of tech-savvy serial killer with a Web site that graphically displays his murders and the investigator in the FBI Internet Crimes division who must track him down.
Steven Pearl (“Lone Star State of Mind”) and Andy Cohen will produce the film and have the script out to directors.
Screen Gems senior veep production Stacy Kolker brought in the project and will oversee production.
Unlike many first-time screenwriters, both writers have significant day jobs. Fyvolent is an attorney who works at Newmarket Films, while Brinker is an orthopedic surgeon in Houston.
Established as a marketing label under Sony Pictures, Screen Gems most recently released Mark Pellington’s “The Mothman Prophecies.” Upcoming releases include “Resident Evil,” starring Milla Jovovich; “Formula 51” (aka “The 51st State”), starring Samuel L. Jackson; “Lone Star State of Mind,” starring Joshua Jackson; and “Half Past Dead,” starring Steven Seagal.
